AaWRKY9 contributes to light? and jasmonate?mediated to regulate the biosynthesis of artemisinin in <i>Artemisia annua</i>

Artemisinin, isolated from Artemisia annua, is recommended as the preferred drug to fight malaria. Previous research showed that jasmonate (JA)-mediated promotion of artemisinin accumulation depended on light. However, mechanism underlying interaction light and JA in regulating still unknown. We identified a WRKY transcription factor, AaWRKY9, using transcriptome analysis. The glandular trichome-specific AaWRKY9 positively regulates biosynthesis by directly binding promoters AaDBR2 AaGSW1. key regulator pathway AaHY5 activates expression its promoter. In addition, interacts with AaJAZ9, repressor signalling pathway. AaJAZ9 represses transcriptional activation activity absence methyl jasmonate. Notably, presence jasmonate, increased. Taken together, our results reveal novel molecular contributes light-mediated jasmonate-mediated regulate A. annua. Our study provides new insights into integrating two pathways terpene plants.
